LITT: Prolonging life, limiting complications in recurrent medulloblastoma
A CHOC multidisciplinary team, including neurosurgeon Dr. Joffre Olaya and oncologist Dr. Chenue Abongwa, used the minimally invasive interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) to treat recurrent medulloblastoma in a young patient as an alternative to standard-of-care surgical resection. A year after the procedure, the patient showed significant reduction in tumor size and enhancement. AAP offers post-COVID-19 treatment guidance for kids and warns against off-label vaccine administration for children under 12
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers guidance to physicians to treat children who tested positive for a SARS-CoV-2 infection. This includes at least one follow-up conversation or in-person visit to discuss vaccinations, return to everyday activities and residual symptoms. In addition, the AAP issued a statement strongly discouraging off-label COVID-19 vaccine administration to children under 12 years of age.
