CHOC and UCI Health join new NORD rare disease centers of excellence network
CHOC and University of California, Irvine (UCI) Health have been jointly designated a National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) Rare Disease Center of Excellence, joining a new and highly select group of 31 medical centers seeking to expand access and advance care and research for rare disease patients in the United States. This designation will be instrumental in CHOC’s visibility and increasing access for rare disease patients. Read more.

New augmented reality app in radiology adds fun, eases anxiety for patients getting MRIs
A new pilot program at CHOC will use an augmented reality app to help ease the nerves of young patients ahead of an MRI experience. In the spotlight: Dr. Sandip Godambe
CHOC is thrilled to welcome its new senior vice president and chief medical officer, Dr. Sandip Godambe. In this role, he will have primary oversight of activities involving medical staff, quality, patient safety, regulatory affairs, and risk and accreditation. Dr. Godambe hopes to advance CHOC’s excellence in providing the best care for children by incorporating even greater integration and improvement and safety sciences. Treating neonatal arteriovenous malformation with neurointerventional surgery
When a 17-day-old patient was showing signs of the extremely rare arteriovenous malformation (AVM) at a nearby hospital, they were transferred to CHOC’s quaternary neonatal intensive care unit. CHOC quickly mobilized a multidisciplinary approach to confirm the diagnosis and perform neurointerventional surgery, a rare procedure that must be performed with utmost precision and skill. Precision 3D neuroimaging better pinpoints epileptogenic foci
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at CHOC is at the forefront of bringing precise, combined PET/MRI imaging to neurologists and their patients.
