CHOC’s chief psychologist invited to state of the union
Congresswoman Katie Porter invited CHOC Children’s Chief Psychologist Heather Huszti, PhD, to be her guest at the State of the Union address. Following a tour of the Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center, Congresswoman Porter said, “I saw firsthand how CHOC Children’s is a real leader in providing Orange County with the care they need. I invited Dr. Hustzi to the State of the Union because we must do more as a country to end the stigma surrounding mental health and expand access to mental health care.” This press release shares more details, including mental health legislation being introduced by Congresswoman Porter.

Concussed high school athletes may be at increased risk for suicide
Recent research suggests high school athletes who have experienced sports-related concussions may be at increased risk for suicide. Researchers of the study discovered that teens who reported concussions in the past year were more likely to report feelings of depression, suicide ideations, and planned or prior suicide attempts.

Opinion: we must address community trauma
Adverse childhood experiences (ACE) are at crisis levels in California and must be reduced. Additionally, adverse community experiences, resulting in community trauma, must be addressed.
